Introduction 26> Islamic Provisions
There are five types of Islamic commandments, and all human actions and words are inseparable from these five commandments. That is, whatever Allah has commanded, He will reward those who do it and punish those who do not do it, such as salutation (worship) five times a day, night and day, fasting during the month of Ramadan. Wajib (duty) means that whatever Allah forbids, He will reward those who forsake it, and He will punish those who violate it, such as drinking alcohol, engaging in sexual misconduct, and so on. Haram (forbidden) means: that which Allah ought to do [will] recompense [it], but He does not punish those who do not commit it, such as showing a smiling face to a person, giving a salaam, etc. Sunnah (should do) means that what Allah urges to be abandoned should not be done, He will reward those who forsake it, but He will not punish anyone who commits it, such as playing a finger while performing salat. Makrut (not to do) means: something that Islam does not forbid and does not command, such as selling, traveling, speaking
